Introducing the Hybrid Data Center of the Millennia

dlrThe key to survival in a competitive business environment for the millennia is to employ cloud strategies that work.  For many of today’s companies, that means swapping out their monolithic cloud strategies for a hybrid cloud environment, which offers end users unsurpassed options that include the economical savings, scalability and responsiveness of public clouds coupled with the security, high performance and reliable infrastructure of a private cloud solution.  Utilizing hybrid models, business environments can distribute their workloads more effectively as well as bridge their legacy systems and state-of-the-art architecture in order to recognize considerable CAPEX and OPEX savings.

As Hybrid cloud continues to address the ever-changing the environment of enterprise IT architecture, it will also have a profound influence on the data center as we know it.

The hybrid data center, offers businesses a valuable location for their hybrid IT solutions by delivering connectivity to the most important cloud service providers, Internet Service Providers (ISPs), Internet Exchanges (IXs), network service providers, company-owned data centers and office locations, and more. Digital Realty, a leading global provider of data center and colocation solutions, offers customers these key data center facilities complete with a unique global portfolio of cloud-connected solutions that enable them to build, deploy and execute a successful hybrid cloud strategy.

Global Capacity Launches One Marketplace PoP in Ashburn, VA

Global Capacity continues its One Marketplace expansion, deploying four new Points of Presence (PoPs) in the last three months.  While widespread requirements for competitive pricing and low latency connectivity served as key drivers for deployments in San Jose, CA, Pittsburgh, PA, and Seattle, WA, the platform’s latest PoP in Equinix’s DC6 Ashburn, VA data center (located at 21721 Filigree Ct.) fulfills growing demand for competitive metro access.  According to a recent study by Alcatel-Lucent’s Bell Labs, data traffic on metro access will increase 560% by 2017.  With a new hub in Ashburn, One Marketplace offers area businesses a broad range of service attributes to meet these growing network transport needs.

Ashburn offers superior connectivity to key business areas including Washington, D.C. and Metro New York.  By interconnecting to the Ashburn One Marketplace PoP, businesses and service providers benefit from Global Capacity’s connectivity to over three million commercial Ethernet addresses and near-ubiquitous TDM reach.  Customers also gain direct access to Cloud ecosystems such as Amazon Web Services and more than 650 co-located companies including 200 unique network carriers, 100 content and digital media companies and 140 Cloud and IT providers, as well as the largest peering exchange on the East Coast.

OIX Extends Certification Capability to Compliant Data Centers and IXPs Nationwide

In response to growing demand from other regions, the Open-IX Association (OIX) has recently announced that OIX Certification is no longer limited to Northern Virginia; data centers and Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) across North America can now apply for IXP OIX1 and DC OIX2 Certifications.  In order to initiate the certification process, each candidate must submit an application that includes a deposit and processing fee.  Once the application has been reviewed by the OIX executive board and is accepted, the entity is required to complete a compliance report to ensure adherence to OIX data center and IXP technical requirements.

A non-profit association formed by a neutral body of volunteers from the Internet community, OIX is focused on creating better standards for Internet connectivity, resiliency, interconnect, security and cost in North America.  It aims to level the playing field for all by creating a new network of member-governed IXPs housed in multiple neutral data centers that allow participants to interact and exchange content in a very cost-effective manner.

OIX Certifications have already garnered tremendous interest throughout the industry as more and more organizations look to break through commercial barriers created by incumbent providers.  Many data center and IX providers are already adopting OIX standards including LINX, AMS-IX, Digital Realty, DuPont Fabros, and Raging Wire.  To apply for OIX Certification, email

Open-IX also offers membership opportunities to anyone interested in IXPs and data center interconnection and infrastructure, interconnect engineering, or research.  In addition to having input on shaping the operations, engineering and future of interconnecting networks, OIX members have the opportunity to vote in all Open-IX elections.  They may also run as a candidate for the Board of Directors and serve on volunteer standards committees.  For more information about Open-IX, OIX Certification and membership, visit
