Mod Mission Critical’s Colo by the ‘U’ Offers a New Choice in Flexible Colocation

Are you part of a small or mid-sized business looking for a more cost-effective and flexible way to buy colocation space?  Traditional data center colocation providers require half-cabinet minimum commitments, but what if your company requires less?   The providers that do offer single rack unit configurations typically don’t provide them in major metro and emerging markets, where space is usually limited and therefore, expensive.

MOD Misson Critical’sColo by the ‘U’ has changed the way customers buy colocation space by giving them the option to buy it by the single rack unit within secure data centers in many major and emerging markets.  Colo by the ‘U’ differs from traditional colocation offerings from data center and hosting providers, allowing customers the opportunity to customize their Colocation space requirements and scale to suit specific business needs, not the requirements of data center colo providers.

The new flexible and cost-effective Colocation solution has recently become available in data centers across Ashburn, Atlanta, Dallas, Los Angeles, Mexico City, New York, Phoenix, San Jose, Toronto and Sydney, with future deployments scheduled in Amsterdam, Chicago, Denver, London, Miami, São Paulo and Seattle.

MOD offers a competitive breakdown of Colocation options to help customers make the right decisions with little effort.  The company compares customer needs with facility attributes and capabilities – including quality, security, redundancy, space, power, density, connectivity, uptime, efficiency and capacity – to provide a reliable and right-sized Colocation solution for companies seeking to extend their reach.  Once a solution is selected, MOD can also facilitate comprehensive Colocation support, from initial equipment racking, installation, testing and turn-up, to ongoing management.

No Limits Software announces the upcoming release of version 3.0 of their RaMP DCIM solution, with a new user interface, new tablet and mobile versions, new reporting features, support for patch panels, improved drag and drop support for setting up rack power and network connections, a new cost model for tracking all costs for an asset, and enhanced support for managing warranties, service contracts, and leases. “Version 3.0 was a major endeavor by our dedicated team and I could not be more pleased with the results,” said Dave Cole, the president of No Limits Software. He adds that “I think our customers are going to love the new functionality and dramatic new look and feel.”

The RaMP DCIM solution provides data center management from the virtual machine to the IT infrastructure (servers, blades, storage, network) to the Facilities infrastructure (power, cooling, environmental monitoring). RaMP’s auto-discovery allows you to be up and running in hours rather than months and the intuitive user interface reduces training time. RaMP also provides software and operating system license management, state of the art workflow management to manage tasks, and complete integration with intelligent rack solutions from multiple manufacturers.

RaMP 3.0 also introduces new pricing models, allowing customers to choose between traditional software license with annual maintenance, software as a service (SaaS) model with the software running on premise, or SaaS model running in the cloud. This new flexibility will allow customers to choose the model which best suits their needs.

RaMP 3.0 will be on display at the No Limits Software booth (Booth 117) at the upcoming AFCOM Data Center World conference in Las Vegas on April 28 – May 2 and will be available for general release in May.

Version 3.0 of RaMP DCIM includes the following new features:

• A new streamlined user interface throughout the application to make RaMP even easier to use
• Completely rewritten mobile interfaces, with new smart phone and tablet versions to put detailed data center information in your hands
• New reporting tools allow users to create and save their own customized reports in PDF, Word, or Excel formats
• New drag and drop support for patch panels
• Improved rack drag and drop support to allow users to make power and network connections for an entire rack in minutes
• New asset cost model to allow you to track asset costs, including purchase price, lease, service contracts, maintenance, software and operating system, and power and cooling costs. RaMP allows you to roll up these costs by physical location or logical groupings.
• Enhanced support for managing warranties, service contracts, and leases.
• Added the ability for users to create their own Modbus and SNMP devices

The RaMP DCIM solution provides the following benefits:

• Auto-discovery of detailed device information
• Power and environmental monitoring down to the device level
• Server monitoring to identify servers which should be retired, virtualized or consolidated
• Software and operating system license management
• Lease and service contract maintenance

EdgeConneX: Taking the Load off of Internet Infrastructure

The demand for Over-the-Top (OTT) content is currently soaring.  While this is a major victory for content providers and Content Delivery Networks (CDNs), it’s proving to be a nightmare for network operators struggling to keep up with bandwidth constraints over the physical layer of the current network infrastructure.

As EdgeConneX pointed out in its newest white paper, which asks whether video will ultimately kill the Internet, content is the driving force of digital communication.  However, the Web was not designed to transfer such massive packets of data across such long distances.  We are still largely relying on the same infrastructure that was developed when the Web was first created in the mid 1990’s.  This architecture was meant to transfer small packets of data—not large pieces of content.

Unfortunately, content delivery has changed little since the Web was first commercialized in 1991, when the Acceptable Use Policy was modified to allow for business use.  While small steps have since been made to allow greater flexibility when routing traffic, the core approach is the same. Yet the demand for OTT content is growing, and as a result providers are forced to access information from major hubs, which leads to end-user frustration, high costs and latency.

EdgeConneX is changing this approach by providing purpose-built, edge of network hosting solutions that are revolutionizing the way content is stored and accessed on the Web.  By offering distributed colocation closest to key broadband provider aggregation points, EdgeConneX ensures the lowest latency data delivery as well as an improved quality of service.  It’s a strategic solution that is helping clear the pathways of the Internet without having to completely overhaul the underlying infrastructure, but redesigning its functionality to accommodate new architecture that fulfills big bandwidth demand.
